Jauchzet dem Herrn, alle Welt

Known as the 19th century Mozart and considered as one of the most influential conductors of the Romantic Period, Mendelssohn was fascinated by the English choral tradition and his many visits to Britain lead to him writing The Three Motets, Op. 69 for the anglican service. The music of the centerpiece of those three, "Jauchzet dem Herrn, alle Welt" (Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth), is not as celebratory as the title would suggest. Instead, the music expresses deep thankfulness and trust in a higher power.
