About
As cultural ambassadors, the choir is vibrant beyond Trondheim, representing the city and the cathedral at various national and international events.
Traveling is a significant part of the choir’s activities, typically undertaking one to three international tours each year, with destinations alternating between Europe, the US, and Asia. Most years during their Christmas tour, the choir graces one or more European capitals with their presence before returning to Oslo and Trondheim for their much-anticipated Christmas concerts.
The choir boasts a broad repertoire ranging from daily liturgical pieces for the cathedral’s services to traditional boys’ choir compositions and newly penned music. Regularly, they premiere major works, enhancing Norway’s musical diversity.
For every tour, the choir’s concert programs are carefully curated, highlighting the works of local, Norwegian, and international composers. The choir is known for performing musically challenging pieces, often less recognized in the tour’s destination.
The concert choir comprises 45 active boys and 25 adult male voices. Before joining the main choir, aspiring young singers undertake a two-year prechoir program at the communal music school.
The choir’s conductor and artistic director is Thomas Berg-Juul, an accomplished conductor with many years of music leadership experience, including roles as a cathedral organist and musician.
