The Sound of Silence
Simon & Garfunkel is an iconic American folk rock music duo who not only are popular and influential in the 60s, but the legacy continues to inspire and lead young music lovers around the world.
The song The Sound of Silence from the duo’s first album, originally released in 1964, is probably the very first song that drew public’s attention. With a turbulent start, the song eventually took over billboard titles and has been selected as one of greatest songs of all time by various institutions. It even was added to Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry as long-term preservation in 2013.
Written in an unstable era more than 50 years ago, the lyrics still resonate to some aspects of our lives nowadays.
“And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence”
Here is a beautiful cover of the song by Choir of Gymnasiums Fridericianum Rudolstadt from Germany, a high school choir with 300 years of tradition. Let’s feel the timeless power of music and enjoy the song together.
