Hania Rani, born Hanna Raniszewska in 1990, is a rapidly emerging talent from Gdańsk, Poland, making waves as a pianist, composer, and singer within the neo-classical music scene. Educated at the Feliks Nowowiejski Music School in Gdańsk and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Rani has seamlessly blended jazz elements into her classical training, especially evident in her early collaboration with Dobrawa Czocher on the album "Biala Flaga," which featured arrangements of Grzegorz Ciechowski's work. Her music exploration deepened during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to experimentation with improvisation and composition, marking her significant shift towards post-classical genres, while also incorporating elements of jazz, classical, and house music.
Rani's debut album, "Esja," released in 2019 by Gondwana Records, received international acclaim and multiple Fryderyk awards, establishing her as a promising pioneer in the neoclassical genre. Her second album, "Home," ventured further into her musical journey, introducing vocals, subtle electronic elements, and various instruments, showcasing her ability to create a dense atmosphere that transcends musical genres.
In 2021, Rani joined the ranks of esteemed composers by signing with Wise Music Group, and in 2022, she released the EP "Live From Studio S2," featuring re-arranged favorites like 'Hawaii Oslo' and 'Glass.' Drawing inspiration from architecture, design, and her travels—particularly to Berlin, Iceland, and Poland's Bieszczady mountains—Rani's work is deeply influenced by her surroundings, often reflecting a blend of feelings, atmospheres, and memories.
