Let's Chat About Shuxiang Yang

Ad Classica Concentus featured many amazing musicians including Madeline Goh, Theophilus Tan, and Shaun Choo, but today we're going to shed light on one amazing virtuoso from the concert.

One of the Resound Collective's standout violinists, Shuxiang Yang both plays and directs the Resound Chamber Orchestra in addition to his global appearances outside the group. Holding a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from New England Conservatory, he studied with many renowned musicians from across the globe including Donald Weilerstein, Almita and Roland Vamos, Victor Danchenko, and Sylvia Khoo. He then demonstrated the fruits of his studies by winning top prizes at the Hong Kong, Cremona, and Atlantic Symphony competitions as well as going on to perform in prestigious events such as the Cremona Music Festival, Perlman Music Program, Singapore International Festival of Arts, and the 2012 President’s Young Performers Concert.

“Yang gave arguably the finest solo performance in the history of the President’s concert series. Seldom has there been a performance of such intensity, one that grabbed the listener by the lapels and never let go.” (Straits Times)

Eager to explore new frontiers, Yang also regularly delves into unique productions. "The Wondrous Fall" sought to engage more of the listener's senses with augmented reality, while one of his more recent endeavers, Off Menu, are a trio focusing on pieces "not commonly on the canonic menu" that showcase a variety of countries, styles, and cultures.

We hope you enjoyed this quick look into Shuxiang Yang, one of Singapore's finest violinists! If you'd like to learn more, please check out his links!
