Borodin String Quartet No. 2

Alexander Borodin, a prominent Russian composer of the 19th century, led a remarkable life as both professor of chemistry and musician. Amidst his demanding career in chemistry, Borodin found solace and inspiration in composing music during his scarce leisure time..

In 1881, during an extended vacation period, Borodin embarked on the creation of his String Quartet No. 2. Unlike many of his other works, which often took years to complete due to his busy schedule, this quartet was completed in a relatively short time.

String Quartet No. 2 was dedicated to Borodin’s wife as an anniversary gift. Despite Borodin's relatively limited output compared to his contemporaries, his music continues to resonate with audiences and musicians alike.
